Mac Anti-Spyware Program MacScan Adds Blacklisted Cookies
Posted by Freaky on 19 Jan 2007 - 20:51

SecureMac released MacScan 2.3, the latest version of the company’s anti-spyware package for Macintosh computers. The notable feature in this version in the blacklisted cookie scanner, rather than deleting all your cookies potentially loosing saved usernames and passwords (you don't do that right?) you can scan for tracking cookies and remove them. The blacklist cookie definitions, like the Spyware definitions, come in easy to download updates.

AMD demos 4x4
Posted by Mh on 21 Aug 2006 - 15:05

Criticalmass writes: AMD's upcoming 4x4 gaming platform will cost "substantially" under $1,000 - for the processors at least. So said company VP Pat Moorhead, who showed off a prototype system in the US, though details of the system were kept under wraps.

AMD announced 4x4 last month. It's essentially a two-CPU motherboard rigged for ATI's CrossFire and Nvidia's SLI dual-GPU technology twice over to support four GPUs. Each CPU slot will hold a dual-core Athlon 64 FX processor, so that's four cores. Each chip gets 2GB of dedicated memory, for a total of 4GB. '4x4' is a codename, AMD insists.

Posted by Freaky on 13 Apr 2006 - 03:51

vvandal submits 'NEWARK Computer hackers were able to gain access to the Social Security numbers and other confidential financial information of almost 2,000 University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey students and alumni, university officials said.

UMDNJ kept the electronic break-in quiet while it investigated if the information -- including the tuition aid and loan information of about 700 students and 1,150 alumni -- could be used by the hackers.

"We know it was hacked into because there were some things on it that did not belong -- pranks and games," UMDNJ interim President Bruce C. Vladeck told The Sunday Star-Ledger.'

Secondly, I just purchased a piece of artwork by the artist Michael Godard for my computer room. Godard's artwork is special its style isn't for everybody but it grabbed my tastes. If you are into artwork and like this piece or any of his other artwork you should get it

ShmooCon 2006 registration $75
Posted by Freaky on 17 Aug 2005 - 00:09

beetle submits : ShmooCon 2005 rocked. Hacking tourney, Halo tourney, Shmooshicon, awesome hotel, open bar and Keith the D.J. at a sexy D.C. nightclub, and oh yeah, kickass talks. It was a sold-out event, with the last 5 ShmooCon tickets going for over $300 each on eBay (auction proceeds went to EFF). Yay.

The Shmoo Group has ShmooCon 2006 planning underway, and once again, space and seats are limited, so we encourage folks to register early to save themselves some money and a seat. Pre-registration is live, and this year, it's even cheaper--only $75! Pre-register TODAY!

Furor over Cisco IOS router exploit
Posted by Freaky on 02 Aug 2005 - 08:06

Syztrix submits : Although Cisco and Internet Security Systems had abruptly cancelled a planned technical talk and demo at the Black Hat Conference to reveal how unpatched Cisco routers can be remotely compromised, the researcher who had originally uncovered the problem went ahead with the talk anyway, igniting a spate of lawsuits against himself and the Black Hat Conference.

Michael Lynn, the research analyst at ISS who was asked to resign after his presentation detailing how an attacker can exploit flaws in unpatched Cisco routers to gain total control over them, said he felt compelled to reveal the information because "I felt I had to do what's right for the country and the national infrastructure."

Cisco and ISS, claiming it was premature to release the research, saw it differently and immediately filed a lawsuit aimed at compelling him not to discuss the subject further. The Black Hat Conference was also served with a lawsuit by the two companies for allowing Lynn to discuss the exploits associated with Cisco routers.
